Bad Loss in a Bad Way
The Royals had a chance to split the series and even were in position to do until they continued their run of sloppy play that hasn't been enjoyable to watch.
Tick…tick…tick…BOOM!
That’s what it felt like was happening after the Royals took a 4-0 lead early yesterday on the backs of two home runs from guys who really needed two home runs and a double from a guy who has hit a ton of doubles. Daniel Lynch IV got the start in place of a sick Brady Singer, who, let’s face it, probably didn’t mind missing pitching at Target Field. Though I don’t know. I’ve been dealing with a sinus infection for two weeks, so I think I’d rather have a bad day at work than this. Still, Lynch got the call and he was pretty much what we’ve seen from Lynch over the last three seasons.
The difference early is he was getting quick outs. He needed just 12 pitches in the first, seven in the second and eight in the third. Generally when you get through three innings in 27 pitches, it doesn’t really matter how few swings and misses you’re getting. But still, it’s a recurring thing with Lynch. There’s just a lot of contact against him and the stuff isn’t really good enough to cover up for that much contact, at least not in the long-term.
