Lugo and Homers Fuel the Royals Slaying the Dragon
All it took was the MLB leader in ERA and the power bats to come alive for the Royals to finally solve the Twins for a night.
Sometimes it really is simple - put the guy who’s been your best all year out there and let your power bats drive. For the Royals last night, they put the ball in the hands of Seth Lugo for six innings and he did what he almost always does. They got three big home runs and ultimately cruised to a 6-1 victory after two incredibly frustrating losses to the Twins (and another to the Rays before this series). And now, for the third time this season, they’ve lost three in a row but stopped it before the streak made it to a fourth game.
Maybe they don’t follow it up today like they have in the past after their previous losing skids, but this team showed its resiliency once again. Bad teams can’t stop losing. Good teams rarely don’t let it get it too deep. Sure, teams can win it all with long losing streaks; just look at last year’s Rangers, who lost eight in a row in August. But it’s like I’ve said so many times. Bad teams lose, say, 10 in a row. Good teams go 3-7 in those stretches. The Royals have yet to let themselves get into that situation because of games like last night.
