Lugo Does It Again
Lugo's second act of 2024 continues to give the Royals dominant starts down the stretch.
What happened last night in Yankee Stadium doesn’t happen. No, that’s not a figurative statement where someone says that this or that doesn’t happen and the reality is that it occasionally does. Nope. What the Royals did last night has literally never happened. According to Nick Kappel, the Royals were the first team to ever shut the Yankees out with no walks and 14 strikeouts. While that gets a bit obscure, they’d have also been the first if they’d only struck them out 13 times. Best as I can tell, it’s actually the first such game in any Yankee Stadium. Ever. So yeah, that’s pretty impressive.
And it all starts with Seth Lugo, who, sort of quietly, has returned to the pitcher who had some Cy Young support before the weight of all those innings was causing his numbers to tumble. He was brilliant:
