One More Look at Royals Trade Targets
I wrote up some trade targets for the Royals in April. Then again in May. Then again in June. The deadline is Tuesday, so this is the last one.
When the season began with the Royals winning, I think many thought I was being a bit overzealous in writing about some players they could look to acquire at the deadline to help their cause. By mid-May, it made perfect sense. By mid-June, well, there were questions of how they should act. And now, with just a few days left before the deadline, the Royals are unequivocally in the thick of a race. How aggressive they should or will be as we near the final buzzer has been debated, but nobody can argue that they are justified in their desire to make a playoff push, especially with how they’ve played out of the break.
Even with just a few days to go, there are only a handful of truly defined sellers. We know the White Sox, Marlins, Rockies, A’s and Angels are willing to move players. The Nationals can be included in that too given their trade with the Royals already. The Cubs have said they’ll sell, but they want to compete soon, so how much are they selling? The same is true with the Reds. Otherwise, it’s easy to see why there’s just a lot of waiting around.
