Party Like It's 2014: The Royals Sweep the Orioles...Again
It was tight. It was tense. In the end, it was another Royals win and, just like that, the series was over.
Okay, who had the Royals bullpen being the main reason for a playoff win to clinch a series sweep back in June? Anyone raising their hand is a liar, and they are not to be trusted. And yet, that’s exactly what happened in another ridiculously tension-filled game between two teams that apparently are going to square off in the postseason every decade. As long as the result continues to be the same, I’ll certainly take it for the Royals. Before I really get into the game, how much do sports fans in Baltimore hate Kansas City? Yikes.
The interesting thing about the two games is that they turned in the exact same spot in both games. The storyline was slightly different as neither starter made it through five innings, but a missed opportunity in the bottom of the fifth was answered by the Royals scoring the winning run in the top half of the inning. I’m not entirely sure it’s a formula for long-term success, but it was good enough to win two games in a row in Baltimore, which is exactly what they needed to do to move on. Let’s start in that fifth inning, just as we did yesterday in this newsletter.
