The news of the Royals acquiring Hunter Harvey broke Saturday evening at about 7:30pm following a loss to the Boston Red Sox. As with every trade, my reactions bounced around the spectrum. I love the player and the fit with this team, which I’ll get to shortly. The cost, though, was pretty high. They traded third base prospect Cayden Wallace and their competitive balance pick, the 39th pick in the draft, to get him. I think I'd agree if that seems like a lot to get a non-closer reliever. But I also think there are reasons they were willing to pay this price. I hesitate to call it an overpay because I’m still working that out, but the cost was a lot.
