Royals Formula Keeps Working
A good start, a couple of homers and a timely hit and the Royals keep rolling.
You’ll have to believe me when I tell you that I really didn’t think about just copying and pasting yesterday’s newsletter to talk about last night’s Royals win. Okay, fine, you don’t have to believe me, and you shouldn’t. But it would have required way too much finding and replacing to change some names, and the fact that one game was a 6-2 final and last night’s was 5-3. You have to admit that these were two remarkably similar games, with the big difference last night being that the Royals jumped out early and the Guardians took the lead in the fourth. But they didn’t have it for very long, and that’s all that matters.
As the title says, the formula has been working and continues to work. They got a quality start from Stephen Kolek, up from the minors in place of Noah Cameron. They got a big hit in the first inning from Salvador Perez. They got two home runs, this time from the bottom of the lineup. And the bullpen locked it down. It’s kind of what we’ve seen from this team on most nights over the last 13 games as they’ve almost completely crawled out of the hole they dug themselves and are now just half a game out of first place. They are still 17-19, but it’s all relative.
