Royals Lose on TKO
It felt like a heavyweight fight between the Royals and Yankees in what can only be described as October prep work.
Does anyone else feel like they went 12 rounds after watching that game? One team had to win, but I don’t think either team differentiated themselves too much in a 4-3 Yankees win in 11 innings. Everything about last night’s game felt like a playoff atmosphere, from the September 11 anniversary program before the game to the crowd to the actual game itself. It’s hard to be upset about losing that game beyond that losses are upsetting when your team is in a pennant race. Again, one team had to win in the end, and it was unfortunate that the team in pinstripes ended up pulling it out.
It would be easy to point to the missed opportunities. The Royals had Luis Gil on the ropes early. He gave up a double to Bobby Witt Jr. and then walked Salvador Perez and MJ Melendez. With the bases loaded and one out, he went 3-2 on Freddy Fermin and got Fermin to swing through a slider right down the middle. Michael Massey was too aggressive and swung at a fastball on the outer third to ground out to end the threat.
