It gets to be a dangerous game when you go into a series expecting (and even needing) a sweep. I know I’ve said this so many times, but bad teams beat good teams all the time. By the same token, most series against one of the truly worst teams I’ve ever seen in my life. And that’s saying something considering the team I’ve followed since I was born. This White Sox team is BAD. Yes, they’re so bad that they needed italics and capitalization. So I guess I understand expecting a sweep, given that the Royals win yesterday was their 12th in 13 games this season against them and the 17th consecutive loss for Chicago.
And for once, the Royals did it without looking hapless for the first seven innings before getting into the terrible White Sox bullpen and making their waves. This game, with the exception of a hiccup in the second from Brady Singer, was the sort of game you’d expect to play against a team whose season, in effect, ended in April. Nothing especially stood out in this one other than the fact that they did what they needed to do (and a new pitcher making his debut). Taking care of business is an underrated trait in a team.
