The Big Inning Boys Strike Again
If you wait long enough, it seems like every game the Royals will do something in the middle innings to put a game away.
It almost feels inevitable. Even if things aren’t rolling in the early innings, just wait a bit and things will get going, particularly when they’re at home. The funny thing is that the numbers don’t really show that to be true. After last night, the Royals have scored 72 runs in the first three innings, 79 runs in the fourth through the sixth and 77 runs in the seventh through ninth. I suppose that does show a bit of an improvement, but for some reason, it feels like they come way more alive later in the game than earlier.
And last night against Reese Olson and a slew of Tigers relievers, the feeling was a reality. After scoring in the first in every game over the weekend, they waited until the second to get it going last night. It was once again Michael Massey turning on a ball.
No, he doesn’t walk much at all, but it’s hard to argue with a .284/.300/.505 line from the second baseman.
