The Pen Is Mightier

The Royals bullpen has quietly been excellent and helped win another game last night.

I’m not going to bury a lede here. The Royals bullpen, along with a struggling offense taking advantage of a tiny opportunity, won a game last night. But it wasn’t long ago that the idea of this bullpen winning this team a game was laughable. Think back to April 3. The Royals, behind 6.1 brilliant innings from Cole Ragans had a 3-0 lead through seven. Then James McArthur came out for the eighth after finishing the seventh and he allowed two baserunners who Angel Zerpa let score. Then with a 3-2 lead, Will Smith gave up two to lose the game. The bullpen was in shambles a week into the season.
