Is that the sound of the offense finding its footing again? It just might be. Since they scored five in the final game against the Mariners in their home series in early June and through Saturday’s loss to Colorado, the Royals scored just 79 runs in 25 games. They hit .221/.280/.366 as a team. They hit just 22 home runs. They scored more than five runs exactly four times. It was bad, guys. But on Sunday, they scored 10, and then yesterday, they scored six runs in the first game and eight in the second. That’s 24 runs in 27 offensive innings.
They hit three home runs on Sunday, one more in the first game yesterday and three more in the nightcap. They’ve hit .306/.313/.537 in these three games. They’ve gotten contributions from the entire lineup over these last three games. Of course it’s just three games, but something seemed to turn back on in them during the fifth inning of the first game and from that point forward, it felt like we were watching the April/May Royals again.
