I don’t really want to harp on the Chang up use by Singer. He’s a very capable “average” pitcher without it. But I refuse to believe 6 times is enough in 100 pitches. That’s not even enough to get hitter to think about it. The best hitters in the world can still sit on one or the other with him. He’s a very frustrating pitcher to watch…because the talent and stuff is there but I always feel like there is more….and then he will occasionally show more like the first two starts back but we can’t get there often enough.

It's absolutely not enough. But like I said, even six is misleading since four were in one at bat. Even so, I'm more frustrated by him shying away from the slider after it got hit. He needs to be featuring that pitch and understanding it'll sometimes find too much of the plate. It's such a good pitch.

Yeah, with the slider I feel more like that was a one game issue. I think I focus on the change up because with how the season is going I just want to see progression from him as a pitcher. He was forced to do something and actually got results with it. Seems like he’s gone away from it the last few start and I want to believe because we’ve seen glimpses. But I can’t fully believe until I see changes more than a start or two.. You know? I just don’t understand how/why. Give up 5 runs on 25 changeups and I’d take that as progression. I hate harping on the change up….but the changup (or any other pitch) means progression.

It is the second straight game where he hasn’t used it enough so I do think there’s enough to be concerned about. I think the lack of changeups is absolutely concerning too. His next start will be against the Giants and you know they’ll get as many lefties in there as possible. It’ll be a good test.
