Fedde is someone who was completely under my radar. I'm not sure how KBO stats translate to the majors, but based on your description I agree they need to take a shot with him.
You know the nice thing about having a terrible TV contract? When your carrier goes bankrupt, you don't have as much to lose! This is getting kind of scary for MLB in general. When teams are just slashing their budgets by upwards of $50 million because they know they won't make up that revenue, you've got a heck of turbulent free agent market. Almost enough to make a GM sick to their stomach....(Not to be a conspiracy theorist, but it wouldn't shock me if they actually canceled the winter meetings because no one knows how this is all going to shake out.)
I've long thought the Royals should be pretty active in Korea and Japan. Aside from unicorns like Ohtani and Yamamoto, most of the FA are well within their price range. Imanaga is another guy the Royals should be able to afford.
I believe Garcia needs to hit the weight room over the winter and the increased strength will result in better power numbers. Getting a healthy Vinnie back is huge for the batting order. As much as I like Salvy, trading him for pitching makes sense to me! Freddy showed he could play catcher on the MLB level and can hit as well! Add a big bat OF through free agency and upgrade the bullpen as well!!!
The nugget i picked up here is that there will be a third hitting coach. FINALLY.
Can someone explain to me why $2m isn’t spent EACH on the hitting “coach team” and also a “pitching coach team”. Get 5 pitching coaches for crying out loud. And maybe you are going to tell me they do you just name them different things. But why don’t they have a group of 5 for the major league roster? It has never made sense to me you have a roster of 13 guys and you have one official pitching coach. Get three and see who connects better with who. You don’t like one as a player, you work with the guy you connect with the best. It can all be one goal but you work better with certain guys. I’ve never really understood that when you pay $8 million for a crappy player a year but can’t spend a third of that to get a better team in place for said players.
Don’t love hearing the meetings got cut short. Do I think it really matters? No, not a whole lot. But I’m expecting pretty big moves from the Royals this offseason. It’s only setting me up for disappointment, I know. But it’s almost a now or never time for these types of moves.
" The GM meetings, which were supposed to be this past week were apparently much more subdued than normal because of some GI disease that spread through the general managers."
David, we don’t have 1 player in the top 100 players, why is that when we have had good low numbers in the Draft. Why don’t we have better young players after all these years??? We have drafted so poorly it is a joke!! We have 1 positional player who is a Major Leaguer (Bobby Witt) and 1 Major League Pitcher ( Cole Ragins) how in the world are you going to win Big League games with that Roster
I’ve written before and I’ll write it again that I really don’t care about top-100 lists. From 51-100, there are probably 175 players who can fit there. The difference between, say, 53 and 171 can basically be nothing. I also think you’re pretty strongly underselling a handful of players. Pasquantino, Garcia, Velazquez, Isbel and Fermin pretty well proved they’re big leaguers, albeit with some undefined roles. On the pitching side, a year ago people thought Singer was a monster about to break out. He’s still there. McArthur showed a lot. If McMillon is healthy, he is a late inning reliever. No, it’s not a lot, but they didn’t lose 106 games by accident. They’re a bad team and we’ll see what they do to get better in addition to internal improvement.
David, David, maybe Pasquitino, but what has Velasquez, Isabel, and Fermin shown you- very marginal Major League Players Velazquez a little power maybe, Isabel can play Centerfield but cannot hit, and Fermin marginal Catcher at best cannot HIT, Garcia??? I do not think Singer is a Major League Pitcher yet-What has he shown to make him that?? Very, very inconsistentIs not very Coachable, McArthur what maybe 3 or 4 outings when he was effective-If McMillion is healthy maybe
Late reading today but just a couple of comments. I sure hope you are right about a Witt deal getting done
I asked Anthony Franco about the chances of Royals signing Witt, he didn't think they would shell out enough cash to get a deal done. Secondly I read an article somewhere about KC being in the top five to sign Trevor Bauer! I didn't think would ever touch Chapman last year, so who knows!!!!
I’m not sure who Anthony Franco is, but I can’t blame anyone for not thinking it’ll get done. When something has never happened, you generally don’t believe it will happen.
As for Bauer, I saw that. I’m not sure what to think of him. In some ways, you think the guy who Terry Francona got sick of is not a guy you want near your team. Mookie Betts basically said the opposite of that. But there’s also another variable that we haven’t seen what he can do without sticky staff or a ball with tack. He got suspended before the sticky stuff ban and Japan uses a ball that has tack on it.
Oh I obviously know the site and Tim, but I’ve never noticed Anthony’s name. I will say this as respectfully of their work as possible because I appreciate what they do. They often do not have sources. So without any sources, the assumption is always going to be that the Royals won’t spend nine figures until they do. With sources, I can tell you that it’s no guarantee but it’s certainly possible.
What are your thoughts on a Vaughn Grissom for MJ Melendez deal? Or something revolving around those two? Braves are looking for an outfielder now that they declined Rosario. It’s not proven yet the Royals don’t need a second baseman. IDK, saw that and thought, huh. If I’m betting on anything, it the braves young talent. I think that has been shown. Lol.

I’ve always agreed that teams need to invest more in their coaching staffs. It seems like it’s finally happening, which is nice.
" The GM meetings, which were supposed to be this past week were apparently much more subdued than normal because of some GI disease that spread through the general managers."
A lot of talk about #2 starters.
Sounds more to me like a buncha back end guys.

David, do you really think they are going to give Bobby Witt a long term deal? I will be very surprised if they do
I do. I’ve written it many times and I don’t write anything if I don’t believe it.
Okay we shall see, and they need to trade Salvy

Thanks for information on Bauer. Franco and a guy named Tim Dierkes have a newsletter named MLBNL. They talk about trade rumors and free agent news.

I understand, and as I said before, I certainly hope you are right. I hope they can get Witt and Pasquintino both signed on extensions.

I could see it, I guess. Grissom isn’t any guarantee either, but it would make some sense.
