Here’s my take on a potential Freddie trade - unless you can get a return the equivalent of a starting catcher….no reason to trade him. I don’t know if you can or if you can’t. That’s for them to figure out. I think the thing that makes everyone nervous is the pipeline of catchers behind him. I mean, two of the top three hitting prospects in the system are catchers. So I get it. I ask the same question. What are they going to do with them. Because I don’t think JJ makes the same mistake that we are still visually seeing with MJ with these guys. So you don’t have to move them off the position now. But sooner rather than later would be better. I have faith now they will do it. Frankly, I’d be horrified if I saw them both in AAA as catchers. One fine, but one has to move off or be traded. I don’t care which. So I wonder a little bit if that is part of the FF trade requests you are hearing. Maybe nobody things that. Who knows. Happy Friday.
I think it's such a weird mindset to be nervous about talent coming up. I know you don't mean it like that, but good players are good players. Three years ago, I'd assume they'll try to have Salvy, Jensen and Mitchell catch 54 games apiece, but now I have confidence in the front office. I believe one of the prospects is best-served as a trade piece, but I'm just not sure what that trade is yet.
Yeah, I guess I’m not nervous about the talent per sey. I hope they are the three best players you have. I’m not really nervous about anything….its just the logistics of it. I guess you can play both 80 games…but are you really? So if you’re not, just move one now. But I have faith they will. MJ could have panned out this exact same way if he played catcher. We’ll never know. It’s just how it turned out. I have the same confidence as you in the FO now. I’ve evolved. Lol. I agree a trade is most likely. But we are probably a year or two away from that yet. We’ll see.
My only rebuttal to saying we are one of few who had a direct streaming option is it didn’t *work*. Not claiming my experience is the only experience, but when every other streaming service I use works just fine and then the Royals game would constantly either drop to 360p or freeze up entirely, it was not a relaxing experience to watch the game.
That's fair. I utilized the Bally app a few times and most of the time, it was fine, but there were times that it wasn't, so I do understand that. My comment was more from the perspective that the option existed even if people didn't like it. But it needs to be better moving forward.
I think a lotta the time when people would complain that they "couldn't see the games" what they really meant was "for free". And those people would even consider having the channel on cable TV "free", even though their monthly fee is literally a total of what each individual channel costs.
I remember when cord cutting started. So many people were smug about it, saying "Ha ha - suck it, cable providers!" when they subscribed to something like YouTubeTV ( which - SPOILER - is really just cable TV. There's just no cable involved ). And then when YTTV dropped Bally's, the whining was immense. "WUUUT? They can't do that!!!!". Sure they can. There's no guarantee that any channel would always be part of a provider. You don't like it, find another provider that DOES have the channel. But this is what happens in a society where people think things like "music should be free". Now, if you would be so kind, get off my friggin' lawn already.
Anyway...we switched from DirecTV Stream ( which was perfectly fine, but got too expensive for my tastes ) to Hulu + Live TV last year. So I had to find a way to watch the games. I ended up buying the season package from Bally's, & watched on TV using their app via my various Roku's. And...much to my surprise, had basically no issues all season. Go figure. And the end result was I saved about 30 bucks a month, even after ponying up for Bally's.
Just adding my own anecdote to the conversation... I had an absolutely great experience with the Bally app this past season. I am actually perfectly happy if that's what's on offer again next season. And I'm as surprised as anyone to hear myself say that.
In fact, in case this is a benefit others might appreciate knowing... on the Bally app, every game remains available to watch for a couple days after the game. So I was able to watch some games after they'd already been played, and watch at a time that was convenient for me. So I kinda turned into a Bally fan with that.
I knew a minor league player in the Brewers organization who told me that they constantly tried to change his college swing. His didn't get better any until he went back to his old swing, so I'm not sure if hitting coaches sometimes do as much harm is good.
Always enjoy the knowledge and writing, but also appreciate the perspective I have noticed in your recent posts. I had been slightly underwhelmed with Mitchell, but his stats versus league average are impressive. You also recently wrote about the Royals #s of homegrown/trades/fa on the roster as compared to the Guardians. My perception had been the young Cleveland team had all come up through the system, but the percentages remarkably similar to royals.
Hope the team votes for Salvy to have S for superman on his uni next year v. C for captain. He definitely exceeded expectations. But, he is a year older and I just don't see how they could move on from Fermin this season while preaching the value of depth. If KC is trying to make pitching their calling card, it has to be a bonus to the FA sales pitch that they have a gold glover, and a gold glove finalist catching for them (great Freddie pic). Let the young ones marinate another year
Glad to hear a different perspective on Freddy. I'm with you in that he's a fine trade chip. But expecting a middle of the order bat is a bit much. He's more valuable to us for now imo. I'm sure you're writing about it now, but what are your thoughts on Singer for India? On the surface I like the idea of India in front of Bobby, but as a Massey fan, I'm not sure how it fits. Even as a fan of his, I'm not convinced Massey's arm plays anywhere else. And India isn't even great at 2nd. Good platoon and injury insurance? In conjuction with another bat maybe I'll really like it. Perhaps nothing comes of it, but sure seems like a lot of Royals-Reds smoke..

To be fair, MJ’s move off catcher was at least somewhat because he just stunk at catcher. I think they evaluate their own far better now.
I think there’s a typo stating that Q is the Royals only manager to win manager of the year.
Whoops. Yep, it’s Tony Pena.
It's fun to see the Royals finishing high in awards categories again.
Yes it is. Way too long since that’s been the case.

We do have it better than some other markets did for sure

I hope whatever we get next works out as well!

That's why a one-size-fits-all approach is such a disaster. Let guys be who they are, and that's what the best organizations do.
