Maybe I'm clouded by the constant secrecy during Dayton Moore's time, but there's just been too much public conversation for me to think it's not going to happen. Plus, some things I've heard from sources, but unless the source is in negotiations, those can always be tricky.
So regarding the Royals doing enough to generate interest for the stadium. I guess I’m a little surprised that I’m not sure they did enough. And maybe my expectations were a little too high or maybe they are stringing it out. I like what they’ve done….but I was really expecting a BWJ signing or a Vinny signing (or shoot maybe that big trade with Vinny) to really go along with the additions. Are you hearing anything more than they are talking about it? And there is still time….I guess I thought they’d be able to drum up even more excitement for that vote.
There's other stuff still out there too that I'm working on getting some confirmation on. I don't know if anything else will get done regarding the roster changing, but I can promise you that they're not just sitting around marking off days until March 28.
Oh sure. I’m just thinking either the stadium stuff isn’t really going the way they want or the negotiations are taking longer than they thought is all. In a perfect world they’d be able to line the two up I think. But I sorta think they have dropped the ball on the stadium stuff from the beginning.
Having been out of beautiful Independence, MO for over 30 years now I don't necessarily get all the backstage KC news. But everything I read about Frank White seems to be that he has been a big pain in the Royals backside.
That's quite surprising and hard for me to fathom, seeing as how he was one of my all-time top 5 positions guys: 1; WW, 2; GB, 3; HM, 4; FW and 5; AO. Keep in mind, I said faves, not best. One of the many things I loved about Frank was how he really developed some pop once the wheels started to flatten a bit.
Regardless, what exactly is the rub with Frank and the Royals and why?
I can't tell you for sure because I'm not one of the parties, but there have been issues since he was passed over for the manager job years ago and then when he got fired as one of the broadcasters. Many believed (and still believe) that he was fired for being too negative. I've heard from people who I think know that he was fired for badmouthing them behind the scenes, but I don't know for certain. Whatever the reason, he's held a grudge for awhile now and now he's using his position of power in a way that seems off to me.
Is it not a little Ironic that a royals hall of famer is the one you are arguing with on this stuff? I mean, just the chances that he goes into politics…..and then you want a new stadium in that area. It’s all quite fascinating really. It’s almost like White knew the Royals were going to want a downtown stadium like…I’ll run there. LOL. I don’t think that happened. But this is stuff of reality tv right here. The odds!
I don’t think he’s on the ball enough to have planned that out, but yeah, it’s pretty ridiculous. The other thing is that it’s essentially a new organization since his “feud.” Sure some people are still there but so many faces have changed.
Ah ha, got it. While that doesn't make sense, in today's world it sure seems common place. Thank you for the insight!
And yes, you're other comment makes it even more nonsensical - if you're problem was with the old Owners and front office, why hold that grudge after they've been replaced. Silly.
Selfishly, as an out of town fan, I would love to come to a downtown stadium -my tourist dollars and visits/year would definitely increase.
But no site and nothing about a community benefits agreement? Fattest blank check I have ever heard of. Heard Petro talking about the astronomical increase in property taxes for the last subsidy, and I just can't advocate for that even if I want to walk to the stadium from my bougie hotel (but I will if you vote yes).
Also Jackson County royals fans - If you push it til the next referendum, Sherman might add a couple more legitimate starters and a high priced bat
Really hoping you’re right that a Witt extension will be the closing argument for the new stadium.

Disregard. I somehow missed that portion of the article the first time. You did say BWJ might be the deal that tops it off. So that’s still out there.

I think all sides have dropped the ball on the stadium stuff, if we're being honest.

Haha, yes indeed. What would the KC Royals reality TV show be called? I'd go with Royals to Razors and back again, and back again lol.

Thanks for the detailed numbers.
Jackson County fans should Vote NO

Thanks for the coverage as always DL
Do they still have room for Greinke? Or will he go elsewhere?
I wrote about that the other day. At this point, hard to see room for him, but moves can happen at any time to clear some space.
Sorry I missed that! Thanks. I’m glad to see Eaton invited to spring training...
