"baseball players wearing real-life jerseys and real-life baseball pants."

Not exactly, they're wearing Fanatics jerseys!

ooh and I understand they're see-through!

Easy Erika... :)

They still exist. They're just not authentic anymore!

Your mentioning Fanatics reminded me...an old friend of mine was at work ( Target ) the other day, & some customers came up to her & remarked on how much they liked the Chiefs gear she was wearing. When they asked her where she got 'em, she meant to answer "Fanatics".

But instead, she said "Only Fans".

And then she wondered why they walked away with a confused look on their faces.

I watched the first of episode of his new podcast and I found it fascinating. I thought Hoz's insights in this podcast were intelligent.

This is such a 2024 issue, but I listen to too many podcasts and I can barely keep up as is. But good to know there's a positive review!

I subscribed to it. Now we'll see if I can fit into into a playlist. I'm currently subscribed to 286 podcasts ( not a typo ).

Expand full comment

Yikes! I subscribe to a lot podcasts too, but 286? Wow!

Anyway, especially since Hoz's seems to be on YouTube it's not the sort of thing I'll be tuning into unless there's a topic or guest I think I really need/want to hear.

Unless I'm blown away by the debut episode ( if/when I ever get around to listening to it ) that's probably where I'll land too. And as far as 286 goes, most of them fall into that "guest/topic dependent" category. But I do listen to podcasts all day while working.

Thats fantastic - I remember working in college journalism and finagling my way into press passes for Spring Break / Spring training. Got to interview Bob Hamelin, Brett Butler and others, and met Yogi Berra in a tunnel at a Marlins / Mets game. Still writing about sports on the side to this day, Baseball is the best. Now if we can just get them in pants where we don't see their balls. :)

Look man, we can't have everything!

I agree whole heartily about Hos being a Royals Hall of famer. As long as I live, I will always remember Hos and Moose meeting behind the mound to celebrate a Royals win!!!! I'm looking forward to baseball again.

Just such amazing memories with him and the rest of those squads.

It’s great that the Royals and QT want to address literacy in KC. But do they have to cheapen the baseball aesthetic to do so? The signage, noise and flashing lights at the stadium are jarring enough. Now the actual players are set to be an eyesore. How much commercialism is enough?

Expand full comment

Yeah, I mean I still hate the look, but at least there's a good cause behind it.

Everything is for sale. Just wait until it becomes the Wells Fargo Series or Walmart Series instead of the World Series.

Reading through the comments, I’m surprised people care so much about the QT partnership aesthetics. It reminds me of when my gaming buddies (all dudes) and I were preparing to enter an elaborately constructed dungeon in miniature and I congratulated the DM on his very nice dollhouse. I saw the light go on in every eye, and then they just looked sheepish because they knew I was right. And then we played dolls for 5 hours.

Quick thought on the bullpen battle. With so many arms vying for big league spots, how many have options remaining? I'm thinking the stockpiling may have been done with the "I-29 Shuttle" in mind, i.e. revolving relievers between KC and Omaha to keep the 'pen fresh.

Altavilla, Cessa, Duffey, Long Smith, Stratton and Cessa are all out of options. The rest can be moved around at will, which is why I don't think any of the NRIs make the team, but are kept for depth instead.

I get it. But my lord the QT ads are awful. The red is terrible. I understand the point of advertising….but man, it’s just terrible. Nothing like asking for a new stadium, and continuing to rake in the ad money on any possible piece they can. At least they spent money this offseason. Gotta pay for BWJ somehow I guess. But dang.

I don't know what percentage of the money is going to the good cause, but I think it's at least the bulk of it, so I'm not sure this has much impact on revenue.

I did see somewhere on twitter where someone found it ironic that the company was helping illiteracy when they spell quick wrong in the company name. Glad part is going to a good cause. It’s still ugly tho. Lol.

That’s a great story about Hos and your interview. I agree completely about the QT partnership. It looks jarring, but it’s in a great cause, we’ll get used to it in 5 minutes, and since QT is objectively the best gas station, I shall be content.

Yes, we stan QT on Inside the Crown!

I'm not sure how far back this list goes, but Hosmer ranks 11th here in terms of FanGraphs postseason WPA despite a bad OPS. https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/17508o2/fangraphs_postseason_wpa/

It makes sense in my head. Overall numbers not elite, but man, did he have a knack for showing up in the biggest moments.

Every time I look at his postseason numbers, I find myself surprised they aren't better because, yeah, he got the job done when it meant something.

I hadn’t looked in forever…but he really was pretty league average over the course of his career isn’t he. It is amazing what a few great moments will do to your memory. In my eyes he’s great, but then you look and are like…huh. I don’t recall that. Lol.

Good job, David. I'm also really looking forward to Spring Training battles and such. I also think the Q patch is so out of place, but if it's for literacy I'm good. Hosmer is definitely Royals HOF. On a side note, an interesting battle shaping up with Royals management, employees and the Crossroads group. Plus all of that convenient parking for the proposed new stadium...HA! Be well.

Should have sucked it up and signed Chapman for 2-3 year, move Garcia to 2nd, give Wallace 2-3 years to get ready. Waters in center, don’t know why Quatraro likes Isbel, makes a lot of good plays but he also gets a late jump n a lot of others. Velasquez in left, Melendez still isn’t an outfielder, Bianca/Isbel/Eaton if he re learns to hit, to get us by for a year until Gentry is ready.
