David.....you know its not too late to be a sports columnist. Sounds like they have an opening at the Star....and you have plenty of material......

Call it a hunch based on the editor of the local paper not being a big fan of me, but I don't see it happening...

LOL, well now I want to hear that story and why that is. Maybe that can be an article for next week.

I don't think there's much of a story. I honestly don't truly know what it was, but I assume it has something to do with my mocking Lee Judge regularly. Or maybe not and it's something else I've done. Who knows?!

And did he mock you back? I want to know that story, too!

There really isn’t a story to be told. Lee Judge is a political cartoonist given a platform at the paper that he didn’t deserve and he used that platform poorly. I just wasn’t quiet about it, especially when he wrote an article saying that Bryce Harper deserved to be choked. I called him out and continued to call him out and I assume the editor didn’t like that.

I love the idea of trading Mondesi for Jake Meyers. Meyers was rated very highly for his defense in center, 95th percentile in sprint speed, was a two player at Nebraska so he’s got an arm. He also showed a pretty complete bat in triple a and he had a good showing in the league this year. I don’t mind the shoulder injury either. And Mondesi could be seen as a good high upside stopgap for pena at short

I love the idea of trading Mondesi in general if there is something that is helpful back. it is 100% ok that a player goes on and has success somewhere else...if in fact that would be the case with Mondesi. This would not be a case of moving on from a player too soon. Nothing against Mondesi, and he's a very dynamic player, but at some point you have to be available to play. But maybe its just selling too low right now. Who knows.

Yeah I’m in the same boat on this one. Looking at the team tho, I think at this point if we are truly going to go with a youth movement AND try and compete Santana would need to go (i think he will actually bounce back) but we have so many 1B options that need to play (pratto, pasquantino, dozier, melendez even). Then I would say one of benintendi or Mondesi would need to be moved. Arguments to keep and trade could be made for both. I would say who you move depends on if you want to start Witt jr at short right away, or start him at 3B. If you start him at 3B I just don’t see the logic for keeping mondi. If Witt jr starts at SS, I’d say that moves merrifield to right, and dozier and Isbel need at bats and LF is fairly replacable. I think you would trade Benny if Witt jr starts at SS.

Sorry for the essay

I honestly don't know how the Astros feel about Meyers. They obviously like the guy, but like him enough to not trade him? I just don't know. I feel like there could be a fit, though, for sure.

It seems there must be something they don’t like about McCormack. They chose to play Myers in center over him most of the time. But I was hearing Myers might not be ready to start the year with the club. Which is why they seemed to be in on cf free agents. They clearly like myers tho, just depends on if they like Mondesi I guess

I just don't think they love McCormick as a starter, which makes sense. He's a pretty common fourth outfielder profile.

Great piece tho David! Love your stuff. Is it possible to trade Santana for David price? We would take on 6 mil more but would be getting a need of a veteran starter on our team filled. Maybe we could get a complimentary piece from them too idk. But they may have a need for a first baseman and seem to like having multiple first baseman on the bench. Not to mention dh coming to the nl

I’m working on the NL side today, but I’ve definitely had that thought too. The issue, as I’ll write tomorrow, is that the Dodgers probably have bigger plans which would make Santana their Plan R or something and the Royals would like to move him sooner than later, so the timing might just not work out.

David: Athough I know the Royals team and farm system pretty well, I am not the baseball aficionado that you are. So as you talk about potential trades with other teams, it would be helpful if you could list the player's position. eg: Cedric Mullins with the Orioles.

I don't know what Oakland has in middle infielders. Do you think Mondesi could get us Mannea or Montas. Thanks for the great post today, David. Look forward to tomorrow.

If they’re moving a guy like that, it would almost certainly be for someone with more than two years of team control.
