Completely agree on Lynch. His stuff was really good last night outside of three pitches. And the way he worked all over the zone... there is something there with him. And I feel a hell of a lot better about him, even after this loss, than I did at any point last year.
it was the best pitching from the 18 class…..I don’t love the 2 whip for the game as he gave up quite a few hits. But the strikeouts were encouraging and he looked the best of the group. I’m not panicking, I’m not panicking, I’m not panicking…..
I’d actually feel better if they were 1-4 or something but the pitching looked better. Maybe I feel this way because of the last season’s results. But if you need 10 pitchers for 1 “pitching prospect” or whatever number it is to throw out there….why don’t you trade any of them for a established pitcher? I know its not maybe in your “window” but it seems to me that’s the easiest way. I’m sure these guys are still trade able so its a bit of a mute point.
There’s two ways to look at the trading thing on any of them. If you believe the Royals just can’t develop, another team will see the talent and take a chance. They’ll pay a lot less than they would have two years ago, but there’s clearly talent there if you think it’s the organization.
But, if teams just think they stink and they do stink, that’s another problem. One is fixable with a couple personnel moves. Another requires an entire system overhaul. I don’t know which I’d prefer.
Great work as usual! And if you're seeing what you want to see then so am I.
I'm in the the Lou' to see the kids (and grandkid as of last Wednesday - I'm a grandpa!) this week and was at the game last night. I was was uber-excited to see Greinke/Wainwright today but, well... I can tell you this - the ball was traveling well last night and pitchers were paying big for mistakes.
Both my friend (Cards fan) and I kept thinking and talking about how It was just an odd outing for Lynch - at times he flat dominated an almost all-righty lineup, but then the taters...
Question - any news on Bowlan's recovery? I think Anne wrote that he was scheduled to throw off the mound around Mid-March or so which would give him about a month's worth of work. I love the big guy and can't wait to see him in the bigs.
Yeah, super weird game and you're right, the ball was just going like crazy. Any mistake was punished, which happens, but I feel like last night was beyond normal for both sides. I want to see Lynch do it again, but that was the best I've seen his fastball. If he can keep that up, I'm excited to see him be a little better with command.
As for Bowlan, I haven't heard anything in awhile, but he's now roughly 10 and a half months post-surgery and all the reports are that he's really doing well. I think he threw about three weeks ago, like you said (maybe more, I have zero internal calendar these days). The general consensus is it's a year to 14 months or so, which puts him at early June to early August, but we have to remember that sometimes command takes its sweet time. Now, that was a strong suit for Bowlan, so maybe even lesser command is enough, but I wouldn't count on much from him until 2023 with the idea that you'll be pleasantly surprised if there's anything there this year.
Thank you and thank you for the news on Bowlan! 14 months is right around the corner. He's a pitcher that I'd book a Minor League trip to see. I still love him as a closer but I know the Royals seem high on him as a starter. Time will tell.
One other point you made that about Lynch that was spot on was that his pace was improved as well. I hope the pace and the fastball continue like they did last night - Let's leave the taters in Iowa next time and please, no low heat to Pujols - do we not have a scouting report on him after 30 years in the bigs lol. The dude has made a HOF career out of punishing low heat!

I want to see him continue it, but the life on the fastball was definitely different than what I’d seen in the past.

Hey, congrats! That's fantastic news!

Look man, it takes 15,000 plate appearances to know what a hitter is. Or something. Pujols is just 2,300 away!
Ha! Good catch!
