Great, do you know how much better I would feel if the royals started the spring season 0-10 but Ragans looked like he did yesterday? So much better, but thats just me and history won’t repeat itself again will it? Lose now Royals, win in a month. I’m fine with that. Lol.

I’m all on board with Ragans. I’ve seen enough that the stuff and command are good enough with whatever fix he made. My only pause, only pause with him being the top level starter is health. If I had to bet on 30 starts I’d go on the under. But, I’m going to be positive and if he can stay healthy and actually make 80 starts…they will win more games this year.

It’s kind of the weird part of the year again where games are at least being played. But I’m too skeptical of any numbers in spring to get super excited. Just odd time of year in that regards.

Oh the numbers mean absolutely nothing. How they get to the number is what matters and when you're showing stuff like that, I'm in. It's why I don't really care yet that Jonathan Bowlan looked good, but I do care that Jake Brentz couldn't throw a strike. Results matter, but in spring it's all about that process.

Cole: please stay healthy, please stay healthy, please stay healthy! I’m not sure whether to be excited that the Royals may have stolen an ace, anxious about health issues, or thinking they should trade him before he combusts.

Agreed on wondering what the move is. This is where a front office really earns their money. Picking the right guys to keep long-term and the right guys to move at their highest value. But trades like Chapman for Ragans is exactly how organizations get turned around because it can become like the situation in The Office when Dwight used a thumb tack to keep trading for the telescope. Just don’t trade Ragans for an envelope of miracle legumes.

Ragans looked like lights out! When you see big league hitters knees buckle during the swing, it is a sign of great stuff!

Did that 2nd base ump not realize this may be the only time we get to see Ragans in spring training? Ha, saw your tweet before i got to replay broadcast and you weren't kidding! I might seriously boycott the Royals if they trade away Ragans. Nothing but 2 rotation ready starters would make me happy. Keep rolling those hot dice, and if he craps out so be it- worth the chance of an ace. Liked his post game comments of what he was working on and the general intensity. Yup, Im way too high on 2 innings in spring training. I was against opening day for him, but now i'm wondering:

Have Wacha or Lugo started opening day either?

(And now you have me dreaming on Montgomery!, I would even concede a second hot pink or purple patch)

I think Opening Day is overrated in a lot of ways. It's just a day on the schedule, no different than a random Tuesday in May. But in some ways, specifically for the starting pitcher, it can be something that is a bigger moment than they're used to. That said, I also feel like if a guy isn't ready to pitch when there are 161 more games to go after the first one to clean up any mistakes, I'm not sure I'd ever trust them to pitch when it really matters.

Neither of the vets have started Opening Day either, so no matter who does it, someone will be doing it for the first time.

I wonder where Hunter Renfroe is? (Actually - I know he’s in Surprise.) But… unless I’ve missed it, he hasn’t appeared in a game. He’s not in the posted starting lineup for today.

I hope there’s anything to worry about…

Yeah I had the same question but it sounds like he just hasn’t played yet and there’s no reason. At least no reason anyone I talked to was willing to share.

I don't know, David. I had someone on the Royals subreddit tell me Ragans definitely wasn't a candidate to be a true #1 because now hitters had tape on him from last year they could study.

All the tape in the world isn't going to help you hit 101 with a 20" vertical break. Yeesh, indeed.

You know what's funny? I don't ever regret unsubscribing from that subreddit.

Should have traded Hernandez last summer when he had pretty good value.
