David, tell me why we have such a poor Farm System when we have had a lot of great available picks in years past

Two things - poor development with the systems being overhauled in recent years and graduations. The latter doesn't excuse the former, but while the system doesn't look great in terms of rankings, they do have quite a bit of young talent on the big league roster that is under team control mostly though 2028 and beyond. They were largely considered a top-5 system prior to 2022, graduated that talent off lists and then hasn't had the next wave to follow it up.

Now David, don’t you think that the picks should be improved, and the players that the Royals have in their system how many future Major League players are there???

I don’t know, but I’m guessing a lot more than you think.

We shall see won’t we

Good review...I have been following the rule 5 draft for decades and understand why it's important to go through the process... and understand that it's a way to keep teams from hording players... but outside of a few relievers changing teams it seems pretty insubstantial....am I right or am being too harsh?

Without really researching, I’d say the players selected seem to stick more than they used to but I also think that it’s still somewhat inconsequential. But that’s the nature of this particular draft. These are players who weren’t deemed worthy of a roster spot after 3+ years in a system. They’ll inherently be lesser players.

People who freak out when they hear that a player under team control signed their 1-year deal are among my biggest pet peeves as a baseball fan. Good luck educating the masses :-)

"The Royals infield defense is good enough to carry a bat first utility player, in my opinion." Boy, wouldn't that be nice to see. You wrote that about Devin Mann, but it also applies to Tucker Bradley in the outfield. What a luxury to have guys on the bench who you are excited about using as a pinch-hitter in a key situation because you know they can actually keep a rally moving. I'd much rather have that kind of guy than a .300 OBP guy who might get lucky and run into a fastball and hit a homer once in awhile. (yeah, looking at you, O'Hearn).

I'm so sad that there's even a conversation about leaving Nick Pratto off the 40-man. I'm not at all saying you're wrong, just that he seemed like such a lock after his '21 season. I'm afraid someone else is going to fix his approach and unlock his potential.

You and me both on that pet peeve. And yet I read the comments on Facebook anyway.

I look at Mann and think of the Matt Duffy role but with someone who can actually hit and think that would be pretty damn cool. One of the quickest ways to gain 10 wins is to fix the bottom of the roster and I do think Mann or someone like him can be a big part of that.

Every player you listed on the non-tender list I wouldn’t mind at all if they were gone. Not that they are bad. But let’s get the bottom of this roster better. Lots of turnover needs to happen in that area….and yeah, injuries suck….and Samad Taylor probably needs a little more of a chance. But otherwise, pretty much everyone on that list has had time to prove themselves and have not. Or at least not enough to not be on the non tender list. Obviously, it isn’t as simple as you have to find guys to replace them…..but move on Royals if you can.

Hearing a bit of talk about Giolito with the Royals. I’d be very excited about that. You hearing anything?

I think Samad Taylor needs more of a chance too, but they also sort of revealed their thoughts with how they used him. He wouldn't be on my list, but I think I'd be remiss if I didn't say it was a possibility.

I haven't heard a word about Giolito and the Royals. Where are you seeing that?

Rany and Soren were talking about targeting him on Kauffman Corner, but it was just talk. I have seen no rumors or verification.
