Thank you for not including Lance Lynn on the starters list. Good Lord, I hope they don't even kick the tires on that jalopy. I'm old enough to remember when he was proclaimed "fixed" after he was traded to the Dodgers. If by "fixed" they meant "transformed into a pitching machine," then I'll buy it!
I would really like to see Michael Lorenzen and/or Aaron Nola (probably too expensive, but can't a dude dream?) in this rotation. Anything that they do to relegate Lyles to a reliever role would be a positive.
Man, he really tanked this season. And, at least from the back end numbers, doesn't seem to be something fixable. Maybe there's a mechanical tweak that can be made, but it sure seems like maybe just age has caught up to him.
I'm fine with Lorenzen, I'd love Nola. I think there are certainly some options and this doesn't even include trades.
I'm oddly optimistic about our ability to fix pitchers now, which I probably shouldn't be. I'd be happy to hear Severino's named for that reason, depending on the deal of course.
David, I really enjoyed this article. I'm hoping management is not all talk like the Cardinals management and really do something. I liked how you gave your targets.
I hope they actually follow through as well. But I also appreciate giving an honest assessment that also gives us something to point to if it doesn't happen.
I would to see them overpay on Nola, if not Stoman and or Montgomery. A couple of reclamation projects would be Flaherty and Gialito. In the bullpen my top one would be Smith, Suter, and Stanek. Gureiul would be OK, but let's just trade for an outfielder. It's great to see that they are open to spending some cash!
I don't think Flaherty or Giolito are signing for reclamation project prices. At that point, if you believe in them, just give them three years. I don't think I'd believe in Flaherty unless the Royals feel confident they can determine why his velocity fluctuated so much from game to game this year. I also agree that trading for an outfielder is the best bet here, which also likely means trading away an outfielder or two.
After watching the press conference and reading your article, David, I feel more sanguine about the team. And after watching a very small segment of post-season games, I'd be happy with Nola, but not Lynn. I also think that maybe Severino would work -- he has in the past been really good.
I wish I knew who all the reporters at the press conference were.
I’d have to go back and listen, but a lot of Anne Rogers, a lot of Sam McDowell, a lot of Soren Petro and I heard a little from Josh Vernier. I’m sure Jaylon Thompson and a few others got in too.
I don't know Petro's voice. Where does he broadcast? I thought I recognized Vernier but wasn't entirely sure and I thought there were two different women but maybe Anne Rogers had some issues with her microphone. I clearly need to watch more of these or get a different life lol.

Yeah, I feel like there's at least a plan and they know which pitchers they have the best shot to impact. I appreciate that about them.

There's definitely no mistaking Petro's voice!

Petro's on 810. I go on with him weekly during the season. He's the afternoon guy from 2-6 there. Oh, the other woman you heard was Karen Kornacki.
Thanks!
