doubt we see any trades until almost all the free agents sign. With the lockout. On that note though....say this lockout goes until March....do you expect much activity on that front if teams are rushing back to spring training? I guess a trade in April isn't the end of the world. Just thinking I could see a situation where teams don't trade as much the longer the lockout goes.
I'd be pretty surprised if the lockout goes long enough to impact spring training, but if it does go to March, I think it'll be a crazy run of moves for like four days, trades included.
"You might even see a Wild Card team come back from a four-run deficit in a winner-take-all game and then not lose again until the World Series. Crazy, sure, but it could happen." -- I see what you did there...nice. :)
I'm kinda glad the Royals haven't made any big moves this off season. As much as I would like the Royals to go for it roster wise, I believe we are a year too soon. Last year and this year is be about introducing the young players we hope to go forward with to the big leagues. By next off season we should have a better grasp as to which ones we go forward with. I do believe a veteran here and there could help the youngsters integrate onto the club and grow, but I would wait for next year for a big splash trade or free agent
I am very happy that it was not the Royals who made any of the big money deals that were made. I hope that Dayton and JJ stick to Dayton's prior saying that we will not block prospects when they are ready. On the position side of that, and assuming (I know, a big assumption) that Mondi will, like Cain, figure out how to get and stay healthy, then we need no new players, and currently have Carlos Santana blocking one of them and, if Vinny knocks down the door, the kind of problem you like to have, with potentially one extra major league starter regular. Until then, do not hold up Pratto when he is ready, and use Carlos and Dozier as bench pieces when the time comes. On the pitching side, we have so many young pitchers, starters and relievers, that I would rather not block any of them from getting their chance to show us what they can do, by bringing in any more veterans, with the possible exceptions of Ervin and Greg Holland if they are good examples for the youngsters. I may well be wrong, but I feel like I am playing draw poker and, looking at what we have, I do not want to discard any cards/players who may end up being good starters or relievers or bench players for us.
Mr. D.L., I am totally frustrated that O'hearn was not non-tendered. Can you or ANYone possibly explain the thinking? If he batted right-handed, would we even be having this convo? Thx much.
The Royals think he has upside and value as part of the 40-man currently. The stats, the eye test and everything else says they're wrong. But they make the decision. The good news is that he has options and being tendered a contract yesterday doesn't mean he'll be on the Opening Day roster or even in the organization. It also doesn't make it any less silly.
To say I was a little upset to see O"Hearn come back is an understatement. I can't believe the Royals are still making such stupid moves. It makes me wonder is it the manager or the front office that insist he stays on the team? The other question I have is with Cam coming back doesn't that pretty much close the door on MJ making the team next year? Thanks
If MJ makes the team, it won't be purely as a backup catcher, which means the Royals would likely carry three catchers including him, so I don't think Cam getting tendered a contract means much for MJ. It's also important to remember that not getting non-tendered doesn't mean the carpet is rolled out for the Opening Day roster. While no trades will be made during the lockout (assuming it happens), that doesn't mean they can't make a move afterward.

David- if the current "CBA" is so bad why does it seem so many teams and players were rushing to get deals signed before it expired?
Mostly certainty, I would think. For both sides.
