Thanks for all the great coverage, David! I’ve really been enjoying your articles here and on Royals Revue.
Circling back to the extra innings rule, how would you feel about the rule if it went into effect in the 12th inning or something like that? Kind of like the college football overtime rule where teams have to go for two after a couple of overtime periods. I’m with you on most of the criticisms, but I do see a positive in helping to keep from burning pitching staffs with a super long game. Thanks again!
Thanks for the kind words, Dustin! Yeah, I'd be more on board with it later in extra innings. I think it does help with keeping games short, but I also don't know that it was a problem in extra inning games. I'd have to go try to find the study, but so many games end by the 11th that I think they're trying hard to solve a problem that doesn't exist.
I don't think most fans are pissed about a couple innings of free baseball. I understand MLB wanting to keep games from dragging on, but there better ways to do it.

Yeah, I can't argue with you at all on that. According to this Fangraphs article only 2.3% of games in 2019 went past 11 innings. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/so-just-how-much-less-baseball-will-the-new-extra-innings-rule-give-us/

That might have been the one I was thinking of, so thank you! But I definitely wouldn't mind the rule so much as the game dragged on.
