PLAY THE KIDS! That was one of the first Royals games I actually enjoyed this year because it was at least interesting because all the kids played. Shame it took Mondesi and Salvy's injuries and MAT's covid protocol for it to happen.
Sometimes a team has to be forced into something that ends up paying off in a big way. For example, they knew Wade Davis could be a very good reliever (I'm not sure anyone expected the true greatness we got), but they were kind of forced to put him back there after he couldn't stick in the rotation. Alex Gordon forced their hand a little in a move from third to the outfield. I'm not saying they shouldn't get criticism for having to be forced, but as long as they get to the right destination in enough time, I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth.
Would the Royals have a better or worse record if they'd just started the year with all the rookies on the roster? I'm tempted to say yes, because they'd be replacing some guys who haven't played well (like O'Hearn and Santana), but maybe it would be about the same with the typical rookie struggles?
Either way, we're in a big hole already and it's not even June yet.
It'd probably be pretty similar, I'd think given that Taylor has been solid this year and you're likely not playing MJ over Salvy to start the season. But maybe if he's at DH with Dozier at first instead of Santana, a win. But it would have been a lot more fun to watch.
Can he? Probably. But he’s athletic enough that if he’s going to play somewhere other than catcher, it should be either corner outfield or third base. That’s where they were giving him time before the callup.
A lot of that has to do with the fact that the two next best prospects are both first basemen, but his athleticism is kind of wasted there anyway.
Not anything to add, but that was the most entertaining game this year, not because we won, but because they finally played the kids. Today I noticed no Santana or Ohearn in lineup. Woohoo!!!!!!
Rivera's mechanics at third on the tag are terrible. He stretches out to get the ball then has to reach back to get the runner instead of allowing the ball to travel to the base where the runner is going.

WE WON A BASEBALL GAME!
Do you think Melendez can play first? ;)

At this point I would put a wet paper bag at first over Santana, and the rest of the 1B crew isn't much better.
I don’t know, Dozier’s been solid this year.

I didn't know where else to put this :p
