Great analysis! I celebrate this news. I agree with you that the hire of Matt Quatraro signals a new start and attitude for the Royals. Hiring someone good for the team for once and not just another inner circle hire, although I agree that Pedro Grifol would probably have been excellent.
He's the guy I wanted. The rays know how to win on a low budget. Now let him pick his own coaches. We need new blood. Stop with the in house stuff. It hasn't been working. Let this guy have a say in everything that happens
I'm very happy with this hire. I have nothing against Pedro Grifol, and although I expect him to leave, I wish him the best. I hope that Quatraro will keep Alec Zumwalt, as the hitting definitely picked up after he took over. The pitching coach will indeed be critical, and it's good that he will have a say in that hire. And I agree that Vance Wilson could easily move up into a bench coach position - as long as he isn't sending runners from third...
They've already announced that the hitting side will stay largely the same. These guys aren't going anywhere, though I wouldn't be too surprised if one is back working in the minors.
I'm so excited about this move I'm paying attention to all things Royals again! Feels weird in October.
Before I go into the off-season slumber, I want to thank you for this amazing Substack! Although it might be tough at times to relive the losses, I love the analysis and community! Looking forward to next year!
I'm glad I was wrong about them hiring Wathan, not because I know Quindaro* will be better but because they didn't take the easy way out and they didn't go with the choice that would have better name recognition with the casual KC fan. Brighter days ahead!
I'm glad they chose Quatraro. He seems like a good fit. I hope he brings someone from Cleveland to be the pitching coach. Their philosophy seems more geared to what we need. Consistency from Starting Pitchers.
I agree David. Quatraro is an excellent choice who will bring much needed new ideas and new ways of doing things to the team.

Don't go yet! There's still a pitching coach to hire and hopefully that'll actually be fun too!
But I'm glad you're here and looking forward to next year too!
That's true.....after the last couple years maybe the pitching coach hire should be a cause of a huge party........ ;)
Now, the Royals need to bring the Doom to the rest of the hitters in MLB by hiring Winston as their next pitching coach.

David, do you think Quatraro will bring anyone from the rays organization to possibly lead the pitching staff? And if so, who?
He might. The two I mentioned in the article above, Doom and Moncada, would be candidates for sure.
