Thanks David, you may have addressed it already and I missed it. But Singer going to arb over 375k seems really silly to me when they are willing to pay Keller 5m, and O’Hearn 1m before that shenanigans. You think this is them going to get a long term deal done before they actually have to go to arb? It’s really the only thing that makes sense….cause if they actually go to arbitration with Singer…yikes.
I tweeted about it last week or whenever it was the numbers came out. From what I've heard, they're discussing some long-term options. One I don't like is buying out arbitration years but not free agent years, but that's possible. The other is a more traditional extension. I'd be surprised if they end up in arbitration over this. It's just part of the process sometimes.
All that said, they were pretty close to a deal with Mondesi a couple years ago (bullet dodged), so nothing is done until it's actually done.
Edit to add: I think sometimes we tend to think the Royals are unique in short-sightedness, but the Astros are $500k apart with Cristian Javier, the Brewers are $749k apart with Corbin Burnes (and it's a much higher starting point), the Dodgers $400k with Tony Gonsolin, and the Rays $225k with Jason Adam. It happens. Those are all excellent franchises and they're in the same spot with their standout guys.
Good analysis David. I think the truest statement about the Royals is when you said "We just don't know". They are in a position they could go either way-good or bad. To the extent they can shake off the habits and ideology from the DM era, they have a chance to be successful. Let's hope the changing in their MO is enough different to move them ahead.
Yep, and the unknown is hard to deal with and certainly difficult to evaluate! I think that's why I might be as antsy for this season as I've been for any since maybe 2016. It's not that I think they'll be especially good, but we should learn so much about them to find out what they need to do to get there.
Carlos Correa's repeated attempts to leave the Twins doesn't bode well for the unity of their clubhouse over the next few years. He strikes me as one of those guys who can damn near bring down his own franchise without any outside help at all.
I've heard nothing but the exact opposite about him. He went out looking for the biggest contract he could find, which I wouldn't begrudge anyone. And when the number got down to what the Twins were willing to give him, he signed there. The fact that they wanted him back at that AAV even after all that says more to me about him than the fact that he agreed to much larger deals with other teams first.
I have absolutely no doubt that you have rock solid reasons for saying what you said about Carlos Correa. I also have a rock solid reason for what I believe about Correa's unwillingness to put his team's interests above his own, or his allegedly beneficent presence in the clubhouse. I'll merely say that my reason is my wife's cousin David Segui and I'll leave it at that.
I think Vegas totals drop around the start of spring training, but don't quote me on that. Maybe it's the optimism of a new season or maybe it's still thinking about what I was told with how much the old staff cost the team, but I feel like the over will be a good bet.

Java Baez 6 years 140 mil, Jose Ramirez 7 years 140 mil. What a relative bargain
Numbers always seem exorbitant at the time, but in an inflationary environment...
I don’t know about Baez if he repeats his 2022, but yeah, he’d have gotten about $60 million more this winter probably.

I'm absolutely positive that there are people who have differing opinions on him.
Good stuff as usual Lesky. We really don't have any clue what we have right now - and waiting to see if the new hires yield any fruit is BRUTAL!
The ZIPS are out - when do the team win projections come out? I've got some money to make up for last year lol.

I'm hoping for high expectations - something in the 60's would be great!
I'm guessing we'll see 67.5 as the over/under. They should have odds on what their line will start at even. Gambling inception!
