Beautiful! I'm sure that with a few more plate appearances, KC's numbers against Clase would find their way back to his average, but it is nice to see that they hammer him--in a relative sense.

Last night's game gave me a whole new appreciation (as if I didn't have the utmost appreciation before) of Wade Davis and his 2014 and 2015 seasons: 139.1 IP, 0.97 ERA, about a 420 ERA+, and a 0.818 WHIP. That's two seasons of absolute brilliance we may never see again, and Clase has been THAT good this season (WHIP is still 0.720 even after four baserunners allowed last night).

They really got him in this series in general. It's easy to forget because they lost, but they had a chance against him on Monday in the 10th inning as well. Very fun to watch them do that damage!

Boy, you're dead on about Wade in those seasons. Just unreal what he was able to do and so consistently. Always puts a smile on my face.

OK, so disclaimer here that Mariano Rivera did it for like 20 years and is the best relief pitcher who ever lived. BUT …

From 2014-2016 (that last year being a down year with a paltry 232 ERA+) Wade’s ERA+ was 349. Rivera, the all-time leader in ERA+, finished at 205.

I’m not sure any of us appreciated Wade’s peak enough.

I think we may have appreciated it decently enough in the moment, but I don't think we remember it well enough. It was truly just ridiculous.

I too would just stand there, not swing, and pray that Emmanuel Clase threw four balls before three strikes. Respect.

No joke, when I first saw Clase, my thought was just take six pitches and you'll likely end up on first base. His control has gotten significantly better, but it certainly wasn't last night.
