ugly ugly weekend...i was happy to see that the Royals were on the FS1 game of the week on Sat, my happiness lasted about 10 mins. I live in NM so i don't get to see them much. They have to shake up this team. With Soler and Dozier back to back in the lineup it's 2 outs. Hell i would put Lopez in front of them. Bring up Whit, totally agree with your ideas with Soler and Dozier (it is time). I really like your writing. With the short season last year and our record this year, can you combine the numbers on some of players (pitchers and hitters) and see where they stand.
Yes, something is wrong in Denmark. Something stinks. A key time in the history of the Royals, as to whether this next wave will eventually work. This current configuration of the major league roster and the coaching, and pitching and hitting coaching at at least the major league level, has been found wanting. The handwriting is on the wall. The key now, for Dayton and his most trusted aides, is to figure out what changes need to be made, the sooner the better, to give us the best chance to be competitive in 2022 or 2023. Who do we hope have the best chance to be our our major league roster then, and what can we do to best get them ready. Like the year that we brought up Hosmer and Moose, knowing it would take them some time to adjust to success at the major league level, but wanting to start that process, to start the year or two it would take to get from there to playoffs. Big, important questions. Finding the best answers will determine whether we blow this next wave of good pitchers and hitters. Please help us Lord!
You might recall how many hitting coaches they went through with that group of prospects. Honestly, I wrote this in the mailbag last week or whenever that was, but Dayton isn't exactly on the surest footing either. I don't think Sherman wants to move on, but he doesn't have the existing relationship that Dayton had with Glass. It's in everyone's best interest to get this right on the field or there might not be jobs in a couple years.
Agreed, even Dayton or not, is not more important than getting this right. It really seems that this is not fool's gold, that there is a successful core of pitchers and hitters here, or close by, that can give us another 2015 if we play our cards right - and even make it sustainable this time. But making the right decisions about how to do it, including with what coaches, and even GM, will be crucial. For example, it seems that Lynch and Kowar were not mirages in AAA, that the pitching coaching up to that time had helped produce some success. It is one thing to have young pitchers take their lumps and take a year or two to get good at the major league level, but something stinks about how these two did in their initial tries there. And something really stinks about Soler and Dozier in year long slumps so far.
I'm less worried about Soler and Dozier in the grand scheme of things. Soler is a free agent anyway, so whatever, but Dozier pretty clearly was playing early with a thumb injury and just hasn't been able to get anything going this year. It's the steps back for just about every pitcher that has me concerned with the future, but that's something they can rectify pretty easily.
I have been advocating these same moves for weeks. Putting Soler in the 2hole is just for showcasing. I still don't think he brings anything in a trade. Dozier is lost and.needs a season break. Maybe he can be salvaged for the future.
I think we can still get some value out of a trade. I think teams saw what he did a couple of years ago and would love the chance to see if they can "fix" him. I am not saying we will get top tier talent but maybe someone who can at least hit 260 or 270 with above average defense. Or at least someone who can get on base more than Soler is better than what he gives us.
What are your thoughts on Dayton Moore? I see a lot of people complain about him but I feel he has given us a World Series, great farm system, talent that has not lived up to expectation this season but that is not his fault. Do you think he is a problem or no?
I think it's probably pretty close to time to get a different voice in there. On one hand, he's done what seemed impossible and won the World Series, but on the other hand, he's presided over 10 losing seasons and they're working on an 11th. They've had a winning record three times and a .500 record once. He has been the top dog in building one of the best farm systems of all time and then has rebuilt it again to be on the cusp of being one of the best in baseball, but I don't personally think it's enough. I've said for a bit that 2021 was the last year where the record doesn't matter as much as the players, but if they don't win next season, he's probably gotta go, and from what I've heard, ownership has a similar thought.

I actually have a note to myself to combine some numbers after game 102 to see the 162-game numbers, so stay tuned!

All good thoughts - and can we fire Terry Bradshaw while we're at it please.
