Well this is the first time this year where I’ve now thought…..maybe we do need to trade Lugo before he walks. 1-5 against the White Sox and A’s the last week and a half is not a playoff team. Those are the teams you need to do some work on to be in this.

It is hard to believe the Royals offense is this bad! A season long team batting slump! The first thing that stands out to me is the lack of plate discipline, swinging at pitches outside of the strike zone! Looking at you BWJ and Salvy! Second, the young players looking at strike 3. I have coached baseball for many years and when you have two strikes, you choke up on the bat an inch or two to increase bat speed and swing at anything close to being a strike. Looking at you Jac for looking at too many called strikes. Go ahead and call up Weimer from Omaha and send down Massey who statistically is one of the worst hitters in the major leagues. I do not know how you go from a 0.260 hitter with some power to being the worst hitter in the major leagues? So disgusting to watch great pitching being ruined by no offense. Another thing Vinnie please be quiet about this situation because you are not driving in runs either!!!

Glad you're stepping away. I believe this week is FanGraphs' "watch another team" week and I think I might just take them up on it.

I don’t blame you for stepping away. Most of the lineup apparently has. This team needs a shake up. A new hitting coach would be a great start. The philosophy appears to be to take the first pitch down the middle, then flail away at an outside pitch. Now you’re down 0-2 and the pitcher can do what he wants. It’s lather, rinse, repeat. Batter after batter this is happening. I’ve gone to bed early on almost every game. It’s depressing to watch. Something has to change.

In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing.

Coaching is hard to quantify and analyze in terms of why do some Coaches get results and others don't. Some players say they respond to a Coach because he does this, others will say it's because their Coach never does the same thing.

At the MLB level, all of the Coaches have knowledge of the game and more specifically, what they're Coaching. Pitching Coaches know pitching, third base Coaches know the dynamics of Coaching that position, etc. So, if they all have knowledge, and presumably they are Coaching that very knowledge, then why is it that some get results (the ultimate gauge of success) and others don't? Don't worry, it's not a rhetorical question lol.

Inevitably, Coaching comes down to "are they (the players) buying what you (the Coach) are selling." Whatever AZ and his staff are selling simply isn't being bought by this team. So, AZ and his staff need to either sell it differently or sell something else - it's not that difficult.

Am I advocating for a change? Yes, as I have been for a while. AZ and staff can either make a change or get changed. In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing.

The Royals have never had a powerhouse team (except for 1977 when they won 102 games for their only 100-win season). Even in their World Series appearances, they won with good pitching and a good overall team concept, but not with an exceptional offense. I think it's a reflection of our talent level and player evaluations. We've had lots of good players but very few superstars. I don't live and breathe KC baseball as much as I used to. It is what it is.

On the subject of hitting, I keep hearing that Kevin Seitzer would be a great hire as a hitting coach. Why doesn't the Royals' front office seem interested? Did he burn bridges as a player and as a hitting coach previously?

Ugly home results. We were at the game on Sunday and thought/hoped this was it when we took the lead. Q again makes a baffling decision regarding Cameron. Offensively we die...again and...and...screw it! Maybe we can start a positive streak against the Rangers.
