Nice recap David. I’m ready for the offseason. I haven’t payed as close attention here the last month or so anyway, but once DM was let go. I’m just ready for all the changes to occur at this point. I think realizing you are behind the Tigers who have been an unmitigated disaster this year also kinda kicks ya in the balls and makes it ready to be over. Lol
I saw something this morning on RR that the royals had the second worst overall organizational record in baseball. Does it mean anything….probably not….but IDK that it means nothing either. Ready for eternal hope this spring!!!!
I'm sure some would attribute this to all the rookie promotions. But there are a lot of teams, including Cleveland, who played a lot of rookies and still managed better MiLB results this year.
I don't think it means *that* much, but you'd like to have some success. The Royals did quite well in organizational record last season that I don't put a lot of stock into it if it happens for one year.
If Isbel was starting in right instead of OHearn, I don't see Cleveland having that big of a 2nd inning. Makes zero sense to play O'Hearn there, but add that to list of things to look forward to with new mgmt.
The ball O'Hearn dove for and missed was in the first inning. They may or may not score if that's a single or just a double. Nothing O'Hearn or Isbel could have done in the second inning to prevent what happened.
It was great to see the team chip away and make this a competitive game. I told my wife I would not be surprised to see a lineup in the last 3 games with all rookies. Thoughts on that? Would show us what next season would look like, sans Salvy in the lineup.
I don't believe the staff is that bad and look forward, too what I hope, is a change in coaching and managerial direction. Surely the ENTIRE pitching staff is not that bad, with a few exceptions.
Am looking forward to what the next week tells us about ownership and JJ. I would like to believe there is enough talent that they could attract quality coaches to move the team forward. What about the possibility of Pedro Grifol as manager?
Can't wait for your off season recap and what the next season holds!
I could see them throwing out an all rookie lineup once. Just for fun. I wouldn’t count on it, but I could see it.
As for Grifol, interestingly enough, he may have tipped his hand on social media. He seems to have unfollowed the majority of KC writers at least on Twitter. We’ll see soon enough, I guess, but he’s long been one of my favorites to become manager.
Thanks for recap of weekend. I've pretty much quit watching for this year. Too much football to watch, to watch the end of this disaster of a year. Looking forward to some news Wednesday night or Thursday on how many are out the door. Looking forward to your writing that is ahead the in the coming months.
I wouldn't count on it on Wednesday night, but I'd think Thursday would be the day since the playoffs start on Friday. Maybe they won't have a press conference on it for a bit, but I think it'll be on the quiet day. Black Monday becomes Black Thursday this year.
I would say Thursday is more likely. I just read latest Lesky's notes. I like the idea of poaching Indians pitching people, but was surprised that you didn't mention Tampa. Is there not any potential people in their organization that we could hire from them.
Great stuff, as usual. Here's what gets me regarding Arizona... Strom was the pitching coach for the Royals under Muser in 2000-2001. Guess no one could help those staffs!
Yeah, but it was a different time. I had a long conversation a few months ago with someone who covered that team and he was telling me that even then, Strom had a crazy analytical setup. The problem is that it wasn't supported by basically anyone in the game, so he was doing it all on his own and kind of had to create his own programs and all that. Who knows what guys like Chad Durbin, Blake Stein, Dan Reichert, etc. could have become if that was today?

Yep, I wonder if changes will leak because you know they all know about it, but we'll see. If nothing else, we'll get the answers Thursday or Friday.
Proving once again that there is no better team to get your start against in the big show, Brennan and Naylor looked like future HoFers on Sunday.
Josh Naylor has been around. Bo is the rookie. Bo went 0 for 4 with four strikeouts.
The pick off of Isbel by Bo was impressive. But guess he's got a way to go with his bat.
He made a nice throw. I think it was a botched hit and run, which helps, but it was a nice throw.

My bad. Still a play Isbel has shown he can make and OHearn can't. There's no value in playing O'Hearn at this point.

Oh, Tampa is plenty poachable. Don't worry, I've got a pitching coach article that's ready to go whenever the hammer drops.

Dan Reichert would've been a regular on Pitching Ninja. Talk about a Frisbee slider.
I wanted him to be good so badly.
I've very much enjoyed following you this year David and look forward to the off season and what you have to say. Job very well done!
Thanks so much, John! I’m looking forward to off-season writing!
