Fun homestand, for sure. It was nice to see that the success they had against Minnesota (a team that was clearly done playing baseball for the season after they fell out of contention) continued against a likely playoff team.
David, I'm curious about an offhand comment you made: "Then a single and two walks brought Matheny out to make a change and he called on Amir Garrett to clean up the mess, which is certainly a choice Matheny made."
Do you not like Garrett, or do you not like him in that situation (coming in with men on base)? His ERA is elevated but his underlying numbers seem pretty solid.
I probably should have elaborated on that a little bit, but a pitcher with a 16.8 percent walk rate coming in with the bases loaded and nobody out just seemed like it was asking for trouble. I like Garrett, and I get it because of the lefties coming up, but I just thought it was going to fan the flames.
Sunday's game reminded me of the Royals-A's game from the movie "Moneyball". Although KC came back but eventually lost. I liked the black the Royals were sporting at the time!
I feel like the black uniforms are one of those things that people hated at time, would love if they wore them once in awhile and then would hate again if they wore them regularly.
I don't think I've ever followed a game like yesterday. KC facing Luis Castillo being down a TD and scoring 11 runs on playoff contender in the race. JJ is going to sweep out MM and Cal along with his guys. Thinking they will keep Grifol as an organizational guy. Easier not to say anything now with a week left in season than to make inappropriate statement. Can't imagine Sherman would allow MM to stay after his comments in the presser.
The hitting team won't go anywhere (though they might make some adjustments if Zumwalt is in another role in the organization) and Grifol has a chance to stay, but yeah. I will remain absolutely shocked if Matheny or Cal are back. And I wouldn't be surprised if they announce it later this week.

Yep.
