Me, someone who isn't a pitcher, watching Bubic throw gas: Let it eat, man. I'd rather have fewer, more-effective innings if that's what it takes.

I think baseball is heading in a direction where innings are going to be spread out among more guys, and (most) pitchers are going to be best utilized at around 100 frames a season, throwing 2 or 3 innings at a time. I'd love to see what the class of 2018 could do and how their stuff could play up under that model.

I don't think you're wrong about that. I mean, yeah, ideally teams want five guys who will give them 200 innings, but that's just not going to happen anymore. Get me two or three guys who can get you six innings every time out and then get me four or five who can go three at full octane. It's crazy to think about some combination of Bubic/Singer/Kowar/Bowlan/Marsh/Lacy and being able to mix and match with them and let them just let it hang out for 50 pitches every four or five days. Could be fun.

What you described sounds a lot like the Rays model, or what a lot of teams end up doing in the postseason when the rotation tightens up, and would actually make me happy since it would signal that the Royals are actually following along with league trends and how pitcher utilization is changing.

I noticed that Whit Merrifield also mentioned the warmer temperatures and lack of rain. But That was a game that kept me up way past my bedtime--I was so happy, I just didn't want to go to sleep.

Yeah, I mean, sounds like another excuse to me. I'm not saying the weather has helped them much, but I'm just getting so sick of hearing about the bad luck and the bad conditions and all that.

My man Rivera coming through. Hope he gets more chances.

Very interested to see who loses their spot when Carlos Santana comes back.

He definitely did. It was good to see. I'm worried it'll be Rivera even though it should absolutely be O'Hearn. I guess we'll see when Santana even makes it back.

I am positive it will be Rivera. Nothing the Royals have done shows me they are ready to concede defeat on O'Hearn.

I'm not positive it'll be him, but you're not wrong.

Eddie Murphy did a skit once that went something like, if you haven't eaten in 7 days and someone gives you a Saltine, it'd taste so good you'd be like "what kind of cracker is that, that's the best cracker I ever had, etc." I feel that's where we are with the Royals O - Even stranding another 6000 baserunners feels like we have found our stride.

I loved your tirade two days ago about how the most frustrating part of this O is we aren't even logically making obvious moves to improve it. I don't know if you saw it but M Lamar took one of the points (the Ryan O in the clean-up or even in the lineup) and did a good job of fully airing that one out in the RR. When they actually pulled him for Rivera I almost spilled my beer! Of course, I'm sure ROH will be right there in the lineup again today, because the Royals love to double down, triple down, hell throw ALL chips in on their bad decisions.

Here's hoping that yesterday was the start of a winning streak so we can all feel better - we need it.

I does feel like that. It's a sip of water after a week without.

The fact that they felt like O'Hearn should not only play but hit fourth and then pinch hit for him in a big situation late tells me all I need to know. They don't even believe their own thoughts.

I'm looking forward to Heasley today. If he can look as good as I'm told he looked in Omaha (mostly), then they'll have a shot. And then they go to Colorado and get to hit in thin air.

I don't want to tell you how to live your life, but please don't watch tonight.

I will pass tonight, and if they win. I will know.

I can think of every year but 3-4 that have gone this way as I’ve gotten older. April- “Royals, are my team. I’m all in baby, I’m drinking the cool-aid. Add MLB.tv subscription.” May-“They will get better, its still early and I’m excited to see (insert player).” June - “Woof, I don’t know if this is getting better.” July -“Joel, we need to seriously reevaluate how we are spending our time. Stop wasting your time on this.” Aug-“Cancels MLB.TV subscription for year…..I’ll just catch the highlights.” Sept-“Everyone is saying how much better the royals are and its going to carry over. Next year is the year!” Cycle repeat.
